Five participants were selected from three high school technology education classes.  The participants were brought individually into the test administrator’s computer lab for an overview of the usability test and then the test administrator distributed a brief pretest.  Upon the completion of the pretest, the participants began following a verbal script of five tasks to complete.  The administrator observed each participant as they completed the five tasks.  As the administrator observed, he also recorded comments for each participant at the completion of each of the five tasks.  After each participant completed the five tasks, they were given a survey to complete.  Each student then had an in-depth debriefing to clarify any problems they might have had with any of the five completed tasks.  The administrator expressed his gratitude to each participant and then signed a pass for them to go back to class.

Good morning/afternoon, thank you for participating in the usability test of the Nikon Cool Pix 4300.  The usability test you are about to participate in, is an assignment I am completing for a graduate course at Ball State University.  This is not a test of your ability, but an activity to uncover frustrating things about the Nikon Cool Pix 4300Digital Camera.  The test will begin with you taking a pretest, which will establish background information for me.  Next you will complete a list of camera/computer operations using the Nikon Cool Pix 4300 Digital Camera and one of the lab computers.  Finally you will be asked to complete a survey at the end that will help me determine if the Nikon Cool Pix 4300 Digital Camera interface can be made more user-friendly.

2- Please take a photograph of this football.

3- Please zoom in and take another photograph of the football.

4- With the card reader provided, please take out the memory card and place it in the reader and download your photographs onto the computer.

5- With photographs downloaded, please call up the photographs onto the screen.
