FORMATTING GUIDELINES
FOR
the Technology Interface
| 1. | Font Style: Use default font style. |
| 2. | Image Resolution: Images should 96dpi; limit width to 640 pixels in order to avoid scroll bar. |
| 3. | Paper Title: Center at the top with Heading1 font size. |
| 4. | Author and Affiliation: Leave one blank line between the Title and the "Author and Affiliation" section. Utilize a single cell table with no borders centered on the page. Use normal height bold text center in the table. List on three consecutive lines: the Author's name, the author's email address with an appropriate link, and the Affiliation. If there are two authors, utilize a one row/two column table and follow the above guidelines. If there are three authors, use the two author format and add a singled celled table immediately below for the third author. For more that three authors, following the a similar format. |
| 5. | Body of the Paper: Insert a horizontal line between the "Author Affiliation" section and the body of the paper. Use normal size/default font. Use a one-column format with left justification. Use a normal paragraph break between paragraphs. |
| 6. | Abstracts: Abstracts are not required, but can be imbedded at the beginning of the paper. Limit abstracts to 100 words or less. |
| 7. | Headings: Headings are not required but can be included. Use the format included in the example below. |
| 8. | Page Numbering: The pages should not be numbered. |
| 9. | Bibliographical Information: Insert a horizontal line between the body of the paper and the bibliographical information. The referencing preference is to list and number each reference when referring to them in the text (e.g. [2]), type the corresponding reference number in superscript form. Consider each citation as a separate paragraph, using a standard paragraph break between each citation. Use the American Psychological Association (APA) format. |
| 10. | Tables: Indentation and alignment are often an issue when using HTML. This list of guidelines was created with a two column/ten row table. The border size was set to zero to disguise the look of the table. Table may be nested. Most alignment problems can be solved through creative use of tables. |

ABSTRACT
Note the horizontal line between the "Author/Affiliation" Section and the body of the paper. Note that the abstract title is a Level 1 heading as defined below and that text in the body of the abstract is left justified. Note that there is a paragraph break between the abstract title and the body of the abstract. Place your text for the abstract here. Limit your abstracts to less than 100 words. Use a two paragraph breaks at the end of the abstract.
FIRST LEVEL HEADING CENTERED, UPPER CASE, BOLD
Note that there are two paragraph breaks above the heading and only one paragraph break below the heading. Place your text for the first section here, left justified. Only insert paragraph breaks between paragraphs. Be cautious of using line breaks. The html text is formatted to the screen size established by the browser; therefore, if you use line breaks indiscriminately you may get unsatisfactory results when viewed on another browser. You are not limited to the length of the article. Your submission can be 1-page or many pages. Please keep in mind that your audience will be downloading the files off the internet. Lengthy files, particularly those containing many figures, can take a long time to download.
If you have multiple paragraphs simply add a single paragraph break between paragraphs.
Second Level Heading Centered, Upper and Lowercase, Bold
Again, there are two paragraph breaks above the heading and only one paragraph break below the heading. This is true for all levels of headings.
Third Level Heading Centered, Underlined, Upper and Lowercase, Bold
Figures should be created in either a .jpg or .gif format (96dpi). Images should be limited to 640 pixels in order to avoid horizontal scroll bar. File names for figures should be assigned using the initials of the lead author, followed by fig, and a number referencing the figure, e.g. amlfig1.jpg; amlfig2.gif, etc. There should be a paragraph break above the figure and the figure should be centered on the page..

Figure 1. Blues enthusiast in action.
The figure names should be centered below the figure in upper and lowercase bold. Comments should be standard text. Add a paragraph break after the last comment line. When you submit you paper, you must submit all figure files as well as the html files.
Fourth Level Heading Flush Left, Underlined, Upper and Lowercase, Bold
Most web browsers do not recognize many of the characters needed for equations, therefore the equation must be created in a word processing package, copied into a software package capable of creating a .gif or .jpg graphic file for the equation. You might have to use multiple steps to prepare the equation in the proper format. Once you have the equation properly prepared you can link it to the document as shown. File names for figures should be assigned using the initials of the lead author, followed by eq, and a number referencing the equation, e.g. amleq1.jpg; amleq2.gif, etc
(1)
Number displayed equations consecutively, with the number of the equation in parenthesis some distance to the right of the equation. When referencing the equation in the body of the paper, spell out the reference; for example, write Equation 1 (do not abbreviate as Eq. 1). There should be a paragraph break above and below the equation.
BIBLIOGRAPHY
| [1] | References should appear in the order in which they are cited in the paper. Use American Psychological Association (APA) format. |
| [2] | This bibliography was created with a table. The first column is 5% width. The second column is 95% width. All cells are set for vertical alignment. |
It is very important that your document be submitted, via email, using the
following format. Prepare an email cover letter addressed to the editors
which includes the following:
Author Names
email address of contact author
Title of article
List of all attached files, *.htm and *.gif and/or *.jpg
Category in which you would like your article placed. Go the Technology
Interface Index by Topic
and select a category. You may suggest a new category if none of the categories
fit your submittal.
NOTE: The .htm file name should have the initials of the lead author plus month date
submitted. For example jsb0520.htm.Use all lowercase for the file names.
The .jpg and .gif file names must be prepared in a similar format. jsbfig#.jpg or
jsbfig#.gif or jsbeq#.jpg or
jsbeq#.gif.
It is preferable that you zip your files prior to attaching them to your
email.
Use the attachment command in your mailer to attach all of the files to your cover letter.
You may need to consult with your local computer networking group for assistance if you are not sure how to do this.
Email your finished document to the editors.
