Ball State students in these two doctoral programs
have two options for completing their residency requirement:
- At least 15 hours taken over two consecutive
semesters, which may include summer.
- At least 24 hours in four consecutive semesters,
including summer(s), with at least six hours taken each semester.
Students make their decision about the residency
in their own unique ways. Students who pursue the doctorate full-time
usually choose the first option of two consecutive semesters; and
part-time students frequently choose the second option of four consecutive
semesters. However, some part-time students find it advantageous
to take a brief leave from their full-time jobs to study full-time
for two semesters during which time they can make significant progress
toward their degree.
Talk it over with your advisor and Director of Doctoral
Programs. You'll make the decision, but your faculty mentors can
provide you good counsel.
