Welcome to the
Swartz Global Archive of Prehistoric Rock Art Photographs

These web pages were designed with the following purpose in mind:
To provide a space in the World Wide Web for storing and viewing photographic images of prehistoric rock art contributed by people from any place on the planet and to be available to anyone with access to the internet.
It is planned that this archive will result in a worldwide database that can be searched and comparatively analyzed to further reconstruct rock art prehistory and explain rock art phenomena.
The overall goal is to provide a permanent rich archive of images for research and study that will not be controlled by any special group. These pages provide a worldwide repository for anyone.

To generate such a photographic database it is necessary to have all interested persons transmit via internet digitized images to this web site.  Only two basic items or data must be provided though other information is requested:

  1. PHOTOGRAPH(S).  All will be accepted. Photographs taken with high resolution digital cameras are especially encouraged.
  2. LOCATION. Name of country is required, though additional information is needed but will vary due to circumstance.  Smaller political divisions are necessary.  Natural units such as valleys, mountain ranges etc. are important in order to make significant comparative study.  Realize that the terms you use will be sorted out by keyword search.  GPS coordinates can be used.  Please realize, however, that a too precise location  can increase risk of vandalism.
