The American Piano Trio presents a series of chamber music recitals combined with showings of classic films at Pruis Hall, Ball State University, in April, 1997.
April 1, music of Miklos Rozsa and his 1946 essay into Film Noir, A Lost Weekend
April 8, music of Franz Waxman and the 1940 Hitchcock classic, Rebecca
April 15, music of Erich Korngold, and his 1940 masterpiece, The Sea Hawk*The celebrated composers of Hollywood's golden age (1930 through the 1950's) have enjoyed a re-evaluation in recent years. In particular, their concert repertoire has been resurrected. As the twentieth century draws to a close this revival is timely and richly deserved. Tonal, communicative compositional styles are no longer summarily dismissed as "pop" and deemed less than serious. It is fascinating to hear superb examples of these composers' chamber music repertoire juxtaposed with their most outstanding films.
*In celebration of the hundredth anniversary of the composer's birth, the Ball State University Film Series will feature Korngold's Robin Hood on April 14, 1997, (7:30 p.m. at Pruis Hall) in conjunction with our Korngold presentation. The Ball State University Film Committee is supporting our showing of The Sea Hawk at our April 15th concert.
