Hymnology Workshop 2003
Dr. Jeffrey Richard Carter, Assistant Professor of Music

Scope: The workshop will focus on a study of hymn texts and tunes in various styles and reflect diverse cultural, ethnic, and theological identities. Topics include how to use reference sources, hymn indices, the continuum of hymnody as part of the history of the church and the Western musical tradition, and the direction of contemporary hymnody.
This course begins with a study of music in the Bible, Latin, German and English hymns, and closes with American hymns and Gospel songs. Historic and cultural backgrounds are studied.
Instructor brings extensive experience in Southern Baptist churches, Reformed worship, and liturgical worship in the Anglican tradition.
