Basic Wildland Firefighter
(S130/S190/I100)
and Prescribed
Fire training are offered every other year at Ball State University (BSU)
through the Field Station and Environmental Education Center (FSEEC).
These two classes certify people who are interested in obtaining Red
Card certification required to fight forest fires and using fire as a
vegetation management tool. The basic wildland
firefighter workshop (including
S190, S130, I100 modules) is a prerequisite
for taking the Prescribed Fire workshop. All classes are taught by
certified instructors, including professional firefighters and IDNR
Division of Forestry staff.
Wildland fire classes
at BSU are scheduled on alternate years. The most recent basic
wildland firefighter training class was held
at BSU
in Fall 2007 (Oct, 5 - 7 & Oct 20 &
21).
The
next Prescribed Fire class offered at BSU will
be held in March 29 & 30, 2008.
All registration is due by February 28.
