Congratulations and welcome to the Business Fellows program! We are excited to have you as part of the 2006-2007 class of Business Fellows. You were selected for the unique skills and characteristics that you will bring to your project team and to the entire program. I have enjoyed meeting many of you at the orientation sessions and I hope that your year as a Business Fellow proves to be a rewarding and hands-on learning experience. Please read through this entire letter; it contains important information about upcoming events and your work as a Business Fellow!
If you have already attended an orientation session, you have received information about the Professional Development Seminars and Workshops. These training programs are an important part of your Business Fellows experience. They are designed to prepare you for the workplace by addressing the most important skills and knowledge that employers are looking for in today’s graduates. It is required that you attend these sessions so please mark your calendars accordingly. Dress for most workshops is business casual. The schedule and locations for the sessions are as follows:

At this seminar, corporate trainer Mike Polites will discuss presentation skills, communication skills, listening skills, and persuasion skills. A past Indiana State Champion of Humorous Speaking, Mike earned two degrees from Ball State and has worked in sales and consulting.
Saturday, November 11, Problem Solving and Critical Thinking (Minnetrista Cultural Center), 8:30 a.m. – Noon
During this seminar, learning consultant Kevin Eikenberry will highlight problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. The founder of his own training and consulting organization, Kevin’s clients include Fortune 500 companies, universities, and government agencies.
Required Workshops:
Each semester, choose two of five workshops. Most workshops will be held 4:30 – 6 p.m. at the Alumni Center.
Fall dates:
November 9, 13, 20, 28, and December 6. Topics will be announced at a later date.
Twice a month, you will receive an issue of Fast Lane, the Business Fellows e-mail newsletter. This e-newsletter will provide information about upcoming Business Fellows programs, career-related topics, professional skill development, and more. It is important that you read this newsletter because it will be the primary communication tool for Business Fellows. The first issue will arrive in October.
I look forward to seeing each of you on Saturday, October 7, for our first Professional Development training, Creating Effective Teams. This session will be held at Camp Adventure in Muncie.
