Lafayette, Indiana
Midwestern urbanism examined and applied
Ben Ross
2008 | Master of Architecture
This project examines the specific urban characteristics and qualities of Lafayette, Indiana, and attempts to create a historically-informed and locally-suitable vision for a revitalized Midwestern urbanism. Part I looks at specific components of urban life in Lafayette from its settlement in 1825 to the present, focusing on the pre-World War II city. Part II attempts to build upon these precedents to create a vision for urban redevelopment of three specific sites within the city. A design methodology will be developed from the research in the first part and the design work in the second part to provide a framework which can be utilized to guide redevelopment proposals in other cities.
