Designing the Digital Layer
Applying practices and theories of digital media to architecture and the built environment
John Jackson III
2008 | Master of Architecture
During the industrial revolution, architects began to copy the styles and methods of the age drawing their inspiration from the machines of the factories and the things they produced. As their understanding of architecture grew, they applied theories rooted from this revolution and started a new style of architecture. Today, we are amidst in that same curiosity with the digital revolution, yet little theory has been developed in that same manner. This project researches practices and theories in digital media and looks for ways to apply them to architecture and the built environment. The result of this project led to a new understanding of what directions architecture will move toward into this next century.
