| The urban environments of America are
largely a product of the Industrial Revolution, Modernism, and
the automobile. Much industry has moved overseas, but our cities
remain “Modern” asphalt landscapes with large, centralized
utility systems and miles upon miles of paved road. For waste,
we send sewage to a central water treatment plant. For food, we
process, package, and ship products thousands of miles. For
transportation, we have relied almost entirely on the personal
automobile, while almost abandoning our mass transit systems.
This project seeks to integrate urban and natural systems in
order to form a more complete sense of place and locality while
maintaining a global connection and enhancing a community's
economics, ecology, and equity. |
