This is a picture of my buddy Jeff and I in my dad's
Challenger our senior year. This car, at one time, used to be drag raced back in
it's day. Before I was born, of course. Over the years my dad
got other vehicles and neglected this one. But none the less, this
is his baby. He purchased this vehicle as a second owner in 1971
from John Hammel, the former owner of what is now Mike Anderson Dodge in
Rochester, IN. It has an original 7,000 miles on it!!!!!
What makes this car unique to other challengers is
the T/A package. T/A stand for Trans Am. Most people, when
they hear Trans Am, think of firebirds. Well, this is definitely not
the case! This dirty dog used to walk all over the old T/A
firebirds, even though it's only got a measly 340. Dad said he used
to be able to keep run with the big boys back in the day that ran as big
as 400 c.i.
motors! The T/A challengers were specially built to be raced on
road courses, so they have a little more stock horserpower, and whole
different suspension. Along with the AAR cudas, but that's in
the AAR section on my site. Anyone that has heard this car run, knows how
healthy and awesome it sounds. Just recently, he has gone through
the vehicle. He had the entire car repainted, fixed the headliner,
bought new headers, pulled the motor out and freshened it up, and done a
few other miscellaneous things. Needless to say, it's back and
running now, almost as healthy as it's racing days. Not only does my
dad love this car, but so do I, and someday (of which I can't wait), I
will be the proud owner of it. But for now, I have to settle with
riding in and driving it.
