The Patriot
Due to
the differences in Mac's and PC's the clip from the movie "The Patriot"
could not be shown. To make up for this loss, I would like to explain
what the clip will be showing and what I would like for the students to
gain from the clip.
The excerpt from “The Patriot” is a five
minute clip showing the controversy over the American colonies going to
war with Great Britain. Not everyone in the American colonies was in
favor of going to war. In the clip, Colonel Harry Burlow asks the state
of South Carolina to join Massachusetts and Maryland in war against
Great Britain. Captain Martin (played by Mel Gibson) protests by saying
he will not go to war and that independence is not something he finds
worth fighting for. Many in the congregation are opposed to Captain
Martin’s views, while others are on his side. Through this short clip,
I would like the students to see that not every American colonist was
in favor of war or claiming their independence from Great Britain.
