Rationale
I chose my Sociology 427 Article Presentation as one of my artifacts, because it not only shows my ability to present information about spiritual experiences correctly, but also in an exciting, catching, and effective way that is valuable to the learner. To gain my knowledge and understanding of ecstasy and spiritual experiences I read the book “Sociology and Religion.” I decided to pair this article with Intasc #7 because by developing my article presentation, I was able to relay information from the book to my peers in a way that allowed them to gain a better understanding of the article and what it was trying to address. Through creating my article presentation, I learned how important it is to develop strategies that will help students more easily understand the concept I’m trying to teach. For example, when creating my presentation, I decided to use pictures of Flava Flav and Mother Teresa to help students grasp what types of people experiential-expressive theorists and cultural-linguistic theorists believe have ecstatic or spiritual experiences. By using pictures, the students had something to reference the theories back to that were familiar to them and easy to remember. From preparing this artifact, I also learned that it is very important to have a strong grasp of knowledge in what I am teaching, so that I am able to apply it in such a way that relates to my students, their surroundings, and the curriculum (Intasc #7). The rubric from Dr. Saunders shows that I have accomplished Intasc #7 with this artifact and my presentation of the article “Ways of Seeing Ecstasy in Modern Society: Experiential-Expressive and Cultural-Linguistic Views.” |
