Rationale
I chose my prejudice case study report for my Sociology 260 artifact, because it shows my knowledge of prejudice in today’s society, the reasons for its existence, and what affect it has on society. For this artifact, I referenced a previous study done by Sociology 260 students from the previous year. I decided to pair this artifact with Intasc #2 because this artifact shows my knowledge of prejudices in today’s society and how those prejudices can be taught to students to help them gain awareness and change how they view other people on an intellectual, social, and personal basis. Through developing this artifact, I learned a lot about prejudices that are prevalent in today’s society, why they exist, and how they can be avoided. This new knowledge and understanding of prejudices has encouraged me to want to teach my students about the effects of prejudices on society. Prejudice is not something that is just taught on an intellectual level, it is also something that is very personal to everyone and an issue that has been prevalent in society for many years. With this new knowledge gained from putting this artifact together, I can develop activities that will provide learning opportunities that support my students on an intellectual, social and personal level, as Intasc #2 states. These activities will not only raise awareness about prejudice, but also teach students how to break down cultural barriers, and interact as people, not races. |
