Rationale

I have chosen to use the paper titled Senate Voting Analysis as an artifact because it shows my understanding of state politics, the influences that affect that way Indiana senators vote on bills, and the importance of knowing my state representative's stances on certain issues. I paired this artifact with Intasc #1 because this artifact shows my understanding of the subject in which I will be teaching, my ability to show how politics applies to every person's life, and my understanding of how politics affects my life, as well as my student's lives.
Through writing this artifact, I gained a greater understanding of the many factors that affect the way Indiana State senators' vote on bills. This new understanding helped me realize how important it is to research candidates who are up for election within my state, so that I can identify ahead of time what position they take on certain issues that I deem important and what factors may hinder them from voting the way I would best see fit.
This artifact shows that I am aware of the importance of politics in everyday life, and because it's important in everyday life, it will be an important concept for my students to learn. Intasc #1 states that the teacher should have a clear understanding of the subject in which he/she is teaching. Through the grade I received on this artifact, the comments written by Dr. Crawley, and the content of the artifact, it is clear that I understand State and Local Politics and its importance to my students Political Science.
