Name of Book: Peter's Chair by Ezra Jack Keats

Grade Level: 1

Description: The story, Peter’s Chair, is about a boy who loses his furniture to his baby sister. He is
upset about this at first, but later realizes that he does not need the furniture any more.

In the response activity, the student wrote the main information about the story on a pre-made
chair. I made the chair out of construction paper before instruction to save time, but the student
could construct it himself/herself. I gave the student lined paper to write the responses to the parts
labeled on the chair. These parts include:

·The characters (written on the legs)

·The setting (on the seat of the chair)

·The problem (on the bottom rung)

·The solution to the problem (on the top rung)

The child was able to use the book, if needed, to help with the project.
