 Before You Read
 
Before you begin reading The Great Kapok Tree by Lynne Cherry, complete the following activity.
  •  Can you find the Amazon Rain forest?   Go to the map, and click on the area where you think the Amazon Rain forest could be.  Were you right?
After You Read
1.  After you have read the story, take out a piece of paper and a pencil. Write about what the man in the story did to save the rain forest.

2.  What can you do to save the rain forest?  Go to Kids Corner, and click on " 7 Steps for Kids to Take" to find out how you can save the rain forest.  Now, write about 3 things that you can do to help save the rain forest.

Beyond What You Read
Choose one of the following activities to complete.

1.  Go to the Tropical Coloring Book , and print a picture to color.

2.   Can you guess how much rain falls in the Amazon each year?  Go to Amazon Interactive, and find out.  Compare the amount of rainfall in the rain forest with the amount of rainfall where you live. Now, try some other states.
