The stock seat just didn't cut it for me. I know a lot of people are happy with the stock seat; but it just was not comfortable for me. Corbin had a booth at the Honda Homecoming 2001 I decided that I would pop the big bugs. I choose the light gray with dark charcoal instead of the black. Three reasons:
This is a Corbin seat. If you haven't had one before, you will have a break-in period before you are comfortable with it. The Corbin seat is much firmer than the stock seat. The seat is 1" lower than the stock seat. If you think this will let you flat foot easier, it won't. If you have a short inseam, ask them to narrow the front part of the saddle - I didn't but should have.
The armrests to not swing out. This combined with the driver's backrest, makes the passenger entry more difficult. My passenger also complained that with the driver's backrest that she felt locked in because it is so tall. After a few times on and off, she became comfortable getting on and off. After a few miles she became comfortable with the driver's backrest. She says the comfort level of the passenger seat is unbelievable.
If you have the backrest gap problem, the Corbin backrest fixes that problem.

Notice the deep sitting area. This is far more comfortable than the stock seat. The backrest is so high, I can feel pressure on my shoulder blades when I lean back. You can see the two tone color in the area of the backrest and on the passenger armrests. |
| This seat has heaters. Both the driver's seat and the
passenger's seat are individually controlled. Each seat has a low and a
high setting. You can see the passenger control right above the handle
grip.
This picture also give you a clear view of the armrest and the folding driver's backrest. |

My bike had the backrest gap problem. This occurred on many new bikes. The gap on my bike was about 1/2". The Corbin passenger backrest fits perfectly. The stock backrest has two plastic clips that help to hold the backrest in place. Corbin has used metal tabs instead. Additionally the little turndown in the back fits over the truck panel and helps retain the backrest. |
The most luxurious motorcycle saddle in existence! The three piece saddle system for the latest GL1800 Goldwing provides ergonomically engineered seating positions and provides excellent weight distribution for long range comfort. Genuine leather seating provides a true touch of class and offers a perch that breathes. Both the rider and passenger areas are specially designed for maximum vertical back support. This is a saddle worthy of the ultimate touring machine.
The driver's seat has a deep supportive bucket that accepts a removable backrest. Corbin’s backrest installs easily and is fully adjustable to provide a tailored fit. The driver’s backrest is sculpted to allow room for the passenger’s legs includes an integrated spring mount hinge so it folds forward to allow easier boarding and provides a clean look. (Since I am normally on the seat before my passenger, I'm not sure that I see the necessity for this. The passenger seat has a trunkrest with integrated armrests and a generous 19" wide seating platform. Driver seating is an inch lower than stock to give the passenger a better view and the driver better control.
Both seating platforms are sculpted for maximum body contact and include electric seat heaters built-in! Each heater is controlled individually with a switch for the driver on the left side of the seat and a switch for the passenger on the right. This placement allows the driver to keep his right hand on the throttle at all times. Two levels of heat let you adjust the temperature for your comfort level. Corbin’s Master’s Type saddle system is the culmination of thirty-two years of saddle design experience.
Saddle mounts like stock for simple installation. Seat heaters wire directly into an accessory jack in your stock wiring harness.
Rider seating: 17.5" wide x 18.5" long, 22"
vertical support
Passenger: 19" wide x 12" long, 19" vertical support
The Master's Type saddle is THE design for touring. Adjustable rider's backrest, ergonomic shaping in both seating platforms and coordinated trunkrests make the Master's Type a truly impressive package. Includes genuine leather seating and a color coordinating for one of a kind looks.
